March 11 Book Talk and Signing: Joy Kiser, America’s Other Audubon: Bellevue Public Library 224 E. Main St., Bellevue, Ohio 44811
Amateur naturalist and artist Genevieve Jones, of the Akron area, began drawing bird eggs and nests to help identify them and soothe her own broken heart. After she died unexpectedly, her family finished and published the drawings in 1886. Kiser’s book brings these lithographs back into public view and tells the story of the Jones family and their unique contribution to American art. *Books for sale at The Golden Acorn. Bring your own copy of the book for her to sign! In partnership for this event, Art@106 is “Taking Flight.” The studio will be open on Tuesday, March 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to feature its collection of artwork on birds, including paintings, carvings, stained glass, pastels and cards by Bellevue artists. “America’s Other Audubon is an uncommon delight. This new volume is an opportunity to discover an essential ‘lost’ treasure of American natural history, as well as an invitation to deepen our own connection with a wilder, natural world.”
